Happy Anniversary!

Today is my daughter and her husband's 1st year anniversary. Sadly he is deployed and will be gone another 5 months, so to cheer them both up I thought I would surprise them with a secret I've been keeping. When my daughters got married ( yes there are 2 more daughters and 2 sons!) I had their bridal bouquets freeze dried and preserved in glass cases. I did the same for Chris and Andy but since they are stationed in Hawaii I didn't want to take the chance and have it shipped (plus it would cost a fortune , lol). So I decided today to at least send a picture of it so if they return state side I could send it then. I sent the greeting to her on Facebook because I know she checks things out there and that Andy does too when he can. These time differences kill me! Sure enough I got one very excited phone call from Chris on her lunch break, don't you just love surprises! Her bouquet was gorgeous with cymbidium orchids, dendrobium orchids, mokarta orchids spider gerber daisies, hypericum berries and of course some crystals floral glued to the flower centers. She also had a rhinestone holder!

Happy Mothers' Day!

We recently celebrated my Mom's 85th birthday. At first we discussed having a big party, but after a while realized that with such a large family (5 children and their spouses, grandchildren and now great grandchildren) we never have just "us" time. Its so chaotic when we all get together that we thought Mom would appreciate some quiet time with her children! We had a lovely elegant dinner at my home. What she appreciated most was that we had all her favorite foods: crab appetizers, shrimp and scallops wrapped with bacon. The main course featured strawberry spinach salad, lobster thermador, sirloin strip steaks, creamed fresh asparagus and baked potatos. My BFF wastaking a cake decorating class so offered to make the cake. It was incredible, a lemon cake decorated like a hat with fondant and gum paste mini two tone carnations. My sister-in law Deb even made a strawberry rhubarb pie which we were too stuffed to eat! Thank goodness it didn't go to waste since Easter was the next day! My Mom's best surprise was that my sister and her husband flew in from Il, always such a pleasant surprise!
Enough about the party, lol, Mom wanted pictures from her party but I had already planned way ahead. Since it is so rare we all get together and you never know how many times any of us have left, I took pictures of all the couples and one with just Mom and her children. I had planned to make this wall hanging so she wouldn't forget the evening we had all together. Needless to say it was a hit for her Mothers' Day gift! For all the Mothers out there and those who care for children: Happy Mothers' Day.
