As you all know Down the Memory lane is celebrating its 1st birthday and showcasing artists from different walks of the world and their unique projects.

     When Nupur asked if anyone would like to help her celebrate I jumped at the chance. Her work is so incredible and who wouldn't like to help her celebrate her first year of blogging? As a fellow Pinquette I also thought it was a great way to use some fabulous Pinque Peacock products. So, I decided what better way to help you see some great flowers, help Nupur celebrate and finish a layout of one of my grand daughters? I call that "winning"!!!!

     

      I am so excited to be able to help Nupur Patel celebrate her 1st birthday in the world of blogs. Her blog: Down The Memory Lane, can be found HERE . There have been some wonderful projects so far from some very talented artists, literally from around the world! You read that correctly since this hop origins in India where you can find Nupur and her equally talented family. Don't you just love the internet? 

     So I wanted to join this celebration not only to help Nupur celebrate, but, also to push me to get some projects done. I decided it was time to scrap the Thank You card we received from my grand daughter over a year and a half ago. (Ok, so I am a slow scrapper, what can I say, lol). I also had some wonderful Pinque Peacock swirl flowers I had custom ordered and boy did they just make this layout! Let's take a look:

     Mia is the prime example of a "girlie" girl. For her 5th birthday we had a baking party. I made over 25 aprons for both boys and girls. Each of the kids donned their aprons and set about decorating cookies, cupcakes etc. I have to explain that this was the end of August when we should have had beautiful weather. Instead, we had a tropical storm, the remnants of a Hurricane so the rain was torrential ! We did get through the party and safely home before the power went out, for days...... This theme party was perfect since all activities were indoors.

     As usual, I digress, lol! I decided to journal around the black background to give a few details about the party. This added to bringing out the stitching on the black ribbon. I also embossed the filigree design on the bottom and went over the raised design with a white gel pen. I wanted to break it up a bit so I added a ribbon with a pink border and white polka dots on the black background.

     Since Mia loves to bake, I used some mulberry heart dies I had and added a small heart pearl to the center.

     I must admit that I save a lot of things, including this bow. It had been from a gift I received and I just thought this ribbon would come in handy some day and, it did. The beautiful pink, silver and black swirl flower is from Pinque Peacock which has wonderful flower embellishments.

     I had special ordered these from Jessica @ Pinque Peacock's Shop and they were perfect for this layout. That is the great thing about this shop. Jess is so easy to work with and always can custom order exactly what you need. You can get some great embellishments for yourself @ the shop HERE. 

          I had the leaves hanging around for a long time and spritz them with a white sparkle. The other black and white flowers are also from my stash. Below is a picture of the lower corner:

Baking Party

     I promised to show you more about the Baking Party we had for my grand daughters Birthday. On my previous post I showed you the aprons I made for the party favors http://mary-fortheloveofart.blogspot.com/2011/09/party-favors.html now I'll show you why we needed them!

     First of all my daughter Amy made cut out sugar cookies with each child's initial on it. She also purchased some plates with a cupcake on it so she decided to add their name. This way they had a plate to decorate the cookies on and also so they could take their creation home ( That is if they didn't eat it first!).

     The boys were in the kitchen while the girls were in the dining room. They were all too busy either decorating or eating so everyone was well behaved and focused.

     Speaking of focused, it was amazing to see the difference in the 2 groups. They all had the same decorating tubes with frosting, cookies, and sprinkles. Amy put the sprinkles in cupcake liners so the kids could spoon them on the iced cookies. While the boys just squeezed some icing out, threw on some sprinkles and set about eating them, the girls were busy creating, layering and "sharing" their technique!

     Ok, some of the boys really got into it!

     Even the youngest. (Yes they ALL received aprons. Just look at it as an oversized bib!)

Some were extremely proud of their talents and so they should be.

Some were more interested in real food and hanging with the college graduation crowd.

Gotta love this kid!

If you are wondering what the adults were doing here's a peek:

     Remember this is only 3pm BEFORE Tropical Storm Irene hit. She didn't arrive until 11pm. My husband (Fran) and the guys kept sweeping the water away from the tents while everyone was eating in the garage.

After the kids were done decorating, the ladies enjoyed a watermelon Daiquiri

Party Favors

     Sorry I haven't been posting much lately but I have a good excuse. It has nothing to do with the Hurricane Irene but rather with preparing for a baking themed birthday party. So, without further adieu:

     Yup, it's aprons, all 25 of them!!! You read that right, 12 girls and 13 boys. I made my own pattern and the the boys are the chef apron out of character fabric. Some are Batman, some Star Wars, and some are Spiderman. How flippin' cute is that! The girls' aprons are girlie prints with a ruffle around the bottom and side edges. The waistband and neck tie have velcro enclosures making it easy for the little ones to put on themselves.
     The kids range in age from 7 months to 9 years old which meant I had to make several sizes. It may seem like an overwhelming task but not really. I have been sewing for more years than I care to count so I have a serger which helped a lot plus gives it a real professional look. It actually takes more time to cut them out than to actually construct them, lol. Start to finish it took me 2 weeks. Not bad for a power sewer!

     Here are all the boys including 2 Batman versions. They are all reversible. The straps and waist tie are also from the co ordinating fabric.Now for the girls:

     Now that's one happy little 5 year old! Happy Birthday Mia Sofia!
